Roman wall south-east of Monk Bar, York

These walls are part of the north-east wall of the Roman fortress of Eboracum. They date from c200 AD and are built on foundations from c110 AD. They were built by the IXth and VIth Legions of roman soldiers. The legionary fortress was originally built in AD 71 and then rebuilt in stone in AD 107-8.
