Mount Grace Priory, East Harlsey, North Yorkshire

An aerial view of the ruins of Mount Grace Priory, a Carthusian monastery which was founded by Thomas of Holland, Duke of Surrey in 1398. The monks lived in isolation in individual cells with their own enclosed gardens. The remains of these cells can still be seen around the cloister. It was dissolved in 1539. This site is owned by the National Trust but maintained and managed by English Heritage (2010) .
