Lower Arcade, Horsefair, Bristol

A fine surviving example of an early shopping arcade. It was built in 1824-5. It was modelled on the Burlington Arcade, Piccadilly, London. It is 600 feet in length and was built around the same time as arcades in Cheltenham and Bath. It was originally in 2 sections. The Upper Arcade was destroyed by bombing in 1940.
