Tyntesfield, Wraxall
Tyntesfield, Wraxall, Bristol BS48 1NX
This large country house was built in 1813 for John Seymour and bought by William Gibbs in 1843. The Gibbs family built their fortune trading guano, a fertiliser made from South American seabird droppings. William Gibbs extensively remodelled the house, from a simple Regency style to a High Victorian Gothic style. The house has survived with almost all its Victorian fittings and retains much of its original hot-air heating and ventilation system.
