The Portico, Ruskin Park

The Portico, Ruskin Park , Denmark Hill, London SE5 8EL

This 'Folly' is found on the central-eastern side of Ruskin Park. It has a late 18th-century entrance screen and flanking walls of a house that once stood along western side of Denmark Hill. Many of these houses were demolished and their grounds and rear gardens absorbed into the new park when first laid out in 1907. The Portico is red brick with four flat-gauged window arches.

Opening Arrangements

The Portico Shelter is open and freely accessible to the public during hours of opening of Ruskin Park. Ruskin Park is normally open from 07:00 to dusk each day of the year; dusk, and hence park closing times, vary between 17:00 and 21:30 depending on the time of the year.

Although Ruskin Park is in a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) area, free car parking is available on streets surrounding Ruskin Park, although restrictions are in place for non-permit holders between 12:00 and 14:00 on weekdays. However, registered disabled (Blue Badge) holders are exempted and can park all day on surrounding streets in available parking spaces.
