This Grade II*-listed moot hall is thought to be one of the earliest purpose-built moot halls in England. Dated to the late 16th century, the building has been in continuous use as the administrative centre of Appleby for over 400 years. The property consists of the Council Chamber and the town clerk’s office on the upper level, with a tourist information centre, exhibition space and gift shop on the ground floor.

Opening Arrangements

Council Chamber open 20 September 10am-3pm and 21 September 11am-3pm. Summer dates to be confirmed - check website for details. Tours available throughout the year by prior arrangement.
