Strawberry Hill, Waldegrave Road

Strawberry Hill, Waldegrave Road, Twickenham, London TW1 4SX

Strawberry Hill is a fine example of Georgian Gothic Revival architecture and interior decoration. Built in 1698 as a modest house, it was later transformed into a ‘little Gothic Castle’ by Horace Walpole. Between 1747 and 1792 Walpole doubled its size, creating extraordinary rooms and adding towers and battlements. Following an £8.9 million restoration, it has now reopened to the public as a 'fairy tale' experience.
