The Masonic Temple, purpose-built by Phoenix Lodge No. 94 in 1785 on the site of the Golden Lion Coaching Inn’s bowling green, is a Grade I listed building. It features a Main Temple and a Dining Room, the latter dating back to around 1730.

Opening Arrangements

It is intended to open the Hall to the Public in June in line with Sunderland Heritage Partnership 2-week event, and in September 2024 will take part in National Trust National Heritage Open Days on Sat 7th and Sat 14 th September 10am to 4pm. Visits by Groups, Schools, Charity Groups and individuals are welcome and can be accommodated by prior arrangement.
