Murgatroyds Brine Works, Brooks Lane, Middlewich, Cheshire CW10 0JG

Murgatroyd’s Brine Pumps are a scheduled monument located on Brooks Lane in Middlewich. The site includes an original hand-dug shaft dated 1889, which is still intact with three sets of brine pumps, two made by John Thom of Patricroft and the third a submersible Beresford pump. The pumps and associated equipment have all been restored, with a new walkway and interpretation installed through the interior.

Opening Arrangements

Free public open days held 12 noon to 4pm on 12-13 April, 10-11 May, 14-15 June, 12-13 July, 9-10 August and 13-14 September. Group and school bookings can be arranged from 2 May to 21 October (charges apply).
