Lowther Castle, Penrith, Cumbria CA10 2HG

Lowther Castle was constructed between 1806-1814 by Sir Robert Smirke for the 1st Earl of Lonsdale. Although it was demolished in 1957, the façade and outer walls remain and are now in the final stages of stabilisation. The site offers dramatic ruins, formal gardens, a heritage exhibition, a café, and an adventure playground.

Opening Arrangements

Open daily all year round, except Christmas Day. Summer: 10am-5pm. Winter: 10am-4pm.
