Bedlam Furnace, Ironbridge

Bedlam Furnace, Ironbridge, Shropshire TF8 7QY

Constructed in 1756-1757 by Madeley Wood Co, this coke-blast furnace is among the earliest in the UK built specifically for coke smelting. Acquired by Abraham Darby III in 1776 and later by Reynold Brothers in 1796, it was possibly used in casting ironwork for the iconic Iron Bridge that gave the area its name. These furnaces are believed to be among the last surviving intact examples.
