Details of the Funds Helping Heritage During COVID-19
Historic England worked with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the National Lottery Heritage Fund to deliver funds where they were most needed across the heritage sector.
There were three rounds of funding available between July 2020 and March 2022. On Friday 11 December 2020, Historic England joined DCMS in marking over £1 billion spent on supporting the cultural and heritage sectors since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Here are the details for applicants that were published with each round of funding.
Past Emergency Funds

Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage (Round 1)
The fund helped heritage organisations or businesses cover operating costs, assess and adapt their business models, and become financially viable.

Grants for Programmes of Major Works (Round 1)
This fund (around £34 million) supported programmes of repair and restoration works (not new works) at nationally important heritage attractions

Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund
Historic England’s Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund was set up to extend a safety net to small heritage organisations at this challenging time

COVID-19 Emergency Heritage at Risk Response Fund
Over £9 million was awarded for urgent minor repairs, maintenance and project development at locally-cherished sites around the country.

Culture Recovery Fund (Round 2)
Over 470 heritage organisations across the country were awarded £44 million in lifeline grants to support heritage organisations as they prepare for the return of visitors.

Culture Recovery Fund (Round 3)
Approximately £300 million was distributed to culture and heritage organisations across the country, to provide emergency funding and help them to build a sustainable future.
