Warders at HMP Nottingham, Nottinghamshire

A group portrait of staff and warders at Nottingham Prison. The prison was built in 1889-91 for both male and female prisoners which is why there are male and female warders. The male warders are wearing a uniform. The female warders are wearing suitably sober dresses with their keys attached. The photograph was probably taken soon after the prison opened. The administration block and chapel, with its clock tower, can be seen behind the group.
