Village Stocks and Whipping Post, Main Street, Witham on the Hill, Lincolnshire
These stocks and whipping post were put up in the 17th century. For hundreds of years most towns had a set of stocks. A statute of 1351 had made it law for every township to provide and maintain a set of stocks. They were used to punish people for minor crimes, as was the whipping post.
