Trimdon Grange Memorial, Durham

Explosions could devastate a mine, and a mining community. Seventy-four men and boys perished in an explosion at Trimdon Grange on 16 February 1882. Several of these were rescuers who were killed whilst entering the pit from nearby Kelloe Colliery.
