St John's Hospital, Canwick Avenue, Bracebridge Heath, Lincolnshire

This building was originally the County Pauper Lunatic Asylum. It was built in 1849-52. It was designed by Hamilton and Holland of Gloucester and built by Hamilton and Percy. It is built in a grimly severe Palladian style of architecture. It was set in grounds of 120 acres which included gardens, farmland and a burial ground. The hospital was also used as a wartime Emergency Hospital in the period 1940-1943.
