St Clement's Church and Hedley's Soap Factory, West Thurrock, Essex

St Clement's Church, with its 15th-century west tower, was for centuries an isolated and remote landmark in the Essex marshes. In 1939-40 Hedley's built a soap factory, attracted by cheap building land and river transport. Today the site is dominated by the huge Proctor & Gamble factory.
