School, Port Sunlight, Merseyside
An interior view in one of the classrooms at the former Port Sunlight schools' hall. They were designed by Douglas and Fordham for Lever Brothers. They were part of the model village of Port Sunlight, built to house the workers employed in their soap factory. The building later became known as the Lyceum and was used as a social centre. The walls have many posters and paintings. Victorian lessons were often based on 'objects' such as animals. The very high windows were typical of Victorian schools and designed so that the children did not get distracted by looking outside.
