Roman Coffin, Dorman Memorial Museum, Middlesbrough

This roman coffin stands in the grounds of the Dorman Memorial Museum. The coffin is made from roughly-hewn limestone. It is tapered and measures approximately 212cm long, x 94cm wide, x 82cm high, overall. It stands on 2 mid 20th century stone benches. It was discovered during ironstone quarrying operations, by Cargo Fleet Iron Co. Ltd., at Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. It was presented to the Dorman Memorial Museum in 1927.
