Richborough Roman Fort, Sandwich, Kent
The remains of the Roman settlement of Rutupiae dating from AD 43 when this was the landing place and supply base for Claudius' invasion . The remaining sea-pebble and rubble stone walls formed 3 sides of the late 3rd century Saxon shore fort built on the site. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
