Portwey Hospital, Wyke Road, Weymouth, Dorset
The new Weymouth Union workhouse was based on one of the Poor Law Commissioners' model plans by Sampson Kempthorne, adapted by two members of the Weymouth Board of Guardians, Thomas Dobson and Thomas Hill Harvey. It dates from 1836 and was built from Portland stone with slate roofs to an extended H-plan. After 1929 the workhouse became Portwey Hospital. In 1992-93 the site was redeveloped for housing and is now (2010), appropriately, called Union Court.
