Place House, Fowey, Cornwall

This large stone-built house is of mid to late 15th century origin but dates mainly from the early 16th century. It was lived in by the Treffry family who played a large part in the life of Fowey. It was defended against the French in 1475 by Dame Elizabeth Treffry. Soon afterwards it was strengthened and largely rebuilt with features such as turrets with battlements.
