Peasant's House, Wharram Percy, North Yorkshire
A reconstuction drawing showing a Peasant's House in the Thirteenth to Fifteenth centuries. The village of Wharram Percy was intensively excavated and researched by Professor M Beresford and Dr J Hurst from 1952-92. They found the remains of 30 crofts and tofts (houses with a strip of land) with associated outbuildings. They are laid out along three main trackways. Thirty houses were mentioned in 1368, 16 in 1458 and the occupants of the last 4 households were evicted before 1517 to make way for sheep pasture.
