Naworth Castle, Brampton, Cumbria
A suit of armour on display and weapons at Naworth Castle. Naworth Castle was originally a 13th century fortified manor house or stone tower house, founded by de Multon family. In 1335, Ranulph de Dacre founded the stone castle, when granted a licence to crenellate. He added the Dacre Tower and parts of the curtain wall. The castle was remodelled in the 16th and 17th century. It is the home of the Dacre and Howard family. In 1513 Thomas, Lord Dacre played an important role at the battle of Flodden, where the English inflicted a catastrophic defeat upon the Scottish nation.
