Lundy North Lighthouse, Lundy, Devon
The North and South Lundy Lighthouses were built when the Old Lighthouse was abandoned in 1897. It was abandoned because it was often obscured by fog, being so high above sea level. The North Lighthouse stands only 165ft above high water and cost £45,000 to build. It would originally have been operated by a lighthouse keeper living in the accommodation block nearby but has been unmanned since 1978. It was then controlled from the South Lighthouse. In 2009 both Lundy lighthouses are monitored and controlled via telemetry link from the Trinity House Central Planning Unit at Harwich in Essex.
