Lower Waiting Room, Cliff Railway, The Esplanade, Lynmouth, Devon
The waiting room with its attached workshop was built in 1890 at the bottom of the Cliff Railway. It was paid for by Sir George Newnes and built by Bob Jones. It is a timber-framed rectangular pavilion. The pavilion is little changed and still serves its original purpose. It is similar in style to the Upper Waiting Room on Lee Road. The railway was opened on Easter Day, 1890. The builder's grandson, who still worked for the railway in 1995, said that "Newnes' money and Jones' brains built Lynton and Lynmouth".
