Hall i' th' Wood, Hall i' th' Wood Lane, Bolton, Greater Manchester
This timber framed house was originally the manor house of Tonge. The east wing is part of the original house that was built in 1483. A two storey wing of 1591 is joined onto this range at the back. There is also a two-storey range of 1648. In 1758, the family of Samuel Crompton leased the house. Samuel was living here when he designed and constructed the first spinning machine or mule. In 1899, the house was bought by Lord Leverhulme who gave it to the Corporation of Bolton in 1900.
