General Post Office, Victoria Square, Birmingham, West Midlands
The General Post Office viewed from Paradise Street. It was built in 1889-91 by Sir Henry Tanner. Tanner worked as an architect for the government in Her Majesty's Office of Works. In 1891, when he applied to become a fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), he listed the buildings he had designed so far which included post offices at York, Bradford, Halifax, Liverpool, Barrow in Furness, Leicester, Birmingham, and many other towns, as well as major Post Office buildings in London.
