Deans Cottage, Formby, Merseyside
Intside of the sitting room showing the fireplace and range with an elderly man seated to left with a cat on his knee. Although taken in the 1960s this room had probably not changed much since 1900. The rag rug (made from small strips of old clothing) on the floor was typically Victorian. The range was used both as a fire for warmth and also to cook on. The kettle would be placed on the circular trivet on the left and meat hung from a hook over the fire. The other side of the range has an oven and warming drawer.
