County Library, Much Wenlock, Shropshire
This building was built in 1852. It was originally a corn hall and agricultural library. It also has an inscribed marble tablet dated 1887 in remembrance of William Penny Brooks. He is known as the founder of the modern olympic games. It was in 1850 that the first ever Olympian Games were held here in Much Wenlock. They were "to promote the moral, physical and intellectual improvement of the inhabitants of the Town and neighbourhood of Wenlock". They still take place today (2009).
