Claybury Hospital, Woodford, Greater London
Claybury Asylum was built in 1888-90 from red brick with stone dressings. It was built in historic parkland landscaped by Sir Henry Repton for the previous owner of the estate. It was the major work of G T Hine who was the specialist asylum architect. It was the most important asylum built in England after 1875 because it was the first asylum to successfully use the echelon or 'broad-V" plan, upon which all later asylums were based. From 1893 it was known as London County Lunatic Asylum, Ilford. It later became Claybury Psychiatric Hospital. In 1997 the hospital was shut down and converted into luxury flats called Repton Park .
