Cenotaph, Middlesbrough Park Road, Middlesbrough
The Cenotaph stands at the entrance to Albert Park. It was put up in 1922 and designed by Brierley and Rutherford (York) in a style based on the Cenotaph in London that was designed by Lutyens. Messrs Coxhead (Middlesbrough) were the masons. There are 12 tablets on each wall with raised lettering recording the names of the fallen in both World Wars. The tablets were made by Birmingham Guild Ltd. The North and South faces of the shaft are inscribed: "THE GLORIOUS DEAD 1914-1919, 1939-1945".
