Aneurin Bevan greeting a crowd of people on the Patchway Estate, Bristol
Aneurin Bevan was Minister for Health from 1945 to 1951. He created the National Health Service in 1946 and became a popular public figure. He also had responsibility for housing. This photograph was taken at the official opening of a new housing estate built by John Laing plc. The crowd shows how important new housing was to people following the Second World War.
