Description

The print is from a file entitled 'Chemical Factories' in the archive collection of the Central Office of Information. Windscale Nuclear Plant, now known as Sellafield, began to produce material for nuclear weapons after the Second World War. The print shows a view of the advanced gas cooled reactor at Windscale, and was taken amid an attempt by British Nuclear Fuels Ltd - the site operators - to gain Government approval for a plan to reprocess nuclear waste.
