Derby Arboretum was donated to the people of Derby by the industrialist Joseph Strutt. The Florentine Boar was commissioned by Strutt when the park formed part of his private garden. It was an earthenware copy of a bronze statue which Strutt had visited in the New Market, central Florence. Copy negative produced from OP22150.
