The collection comprises an album containing circa 170 photographic prints and postcards, and 20 cuttings relating to London Midland and Scottish railway bridges with a small number showing other estate structures. The material primarily relates to the reconstruction, lengthening, widening and strengthening of LMS railway bridges. Bridges are shown at various stages of construction and the views often include the contractors and construction workers. The album also features contemporary newspaper reports relating to various projects.
Most of the sites are in London and include, Barking, Camden (St Pancras, Euston Station, St Pancras Way and Camden goods station), Hackney (Maiden Lane), Acton (Acton High Street), Tower Hamlets. Non-London coverage includes the Rocket Bridge in Wavertree, Liverpool; Banks, Lancashire; Bedford (Great Ouse bridge) and Thurrock, Essex. In many cases the photographers are unknown. Where information exists, they include: The Railway Executive (1950s images); Fox Photos Limited; G.F. Green, London WC1. Many prints appear to be the work of amateur photographers.
