The collection comprises an elaborate silver-panelled album with 30 black and white photographs of textile warehouses, mills and homes relating to the De Jersey Company run by Carl Julius Gerhard Knoop (later von Knoop) (1822-1893) of Bremen and Wiesbaden.
The many inscriptions on both covers record family names associated with the celebration of the silver wedding anniversary of Knoop and his wife Theodore (also Theodora). They married in 1847. The photographs in the album show properties in and around Manchester, Salford, and Rochdale, Greater Manchester. They were taken between 1872 and 1877 by an unknown photographer. They are all annotated and include interior and exterior views of Knoop's home, Regent House (possibly on Didsbury Road, Rusholme, Greater Manchester). The album contains some of the earliest known street and industrial views of Manchester.
The album was acquired by the NMR in 2011
