Description

This collection consists of 2416 photographs, taken between 1964 and 1998, by Ian M Parsons. The images are mostly colour on 6cm x 6cm transparency film, although there are also a small number of black and white images.

The collection is particularly strong in documenting railways and industrial archaeology across the UK. The railway coverage includes railway architecture as well as locomotives and rolling stock. A smaller number of images within the collection have a focus on canals, docks and water transport. The remainder of the collection includes images of architecture of varying periods and styles. Approximately one quarter of the collection shows foreign railways.

The quality of the photographs is somewhat variable although most is good Investigator quality with some record quality.

The images showing England, Scotland and Wales have been catalogued to item level. A selection from the foreign material has also been catalogued.

Archival History

The collection was given to the NMR in 1999.
