Collection: Herbert Felton Collection

Description

Herbert Leo Felton (1888-1968) was a commercial architectural photographer, and the first photograper employed by the National Buildings Record in 1941.

The collection is split into two series'. Series one contains over 30,000 negatives taken by Felton during his time working for the NBR. These photographs record threatened historic buildings. Series two contains over 3,000 negatives taken by Felton prior to his employment by the NBR. These photographs were taken for architectural publications such as 'The Architectural Review' and 'The Architect and Building News'. Subject matter was predominantly new buildings, and as such there are many examples of art deco architecture such as the De La Warr Pavilion.
