9: 10 and 11 Church Street
Continue down High Street East past the tower blocks and the first brown sign. At the second brown sign, turn right onto Church Street East. 10 and 11 Church Street are the three-storey brick buildings on your left (where Hell's Place is).
As Old Sunderland developed in the early-18th century, the area quickly became overcrowded and the town's merchants and coal fitters started building their residences towards the Town Moor.
The two three-storey brick town houses in front of you are the only two surviving houses from this period. 10 Church Street was built by local merchant John Freeman around 1710 and now serves as the Tyne and Wear chapter house for the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club.
